Leena Mehendale sworn in as Chief SIC, Goa

Panaji, Goa, 24th Oct. 2013: On Thursday the 24th October 2013 Smt. Leena Mehendale was sworn in as Goa's Chief State Information Commissioner by the Governor B V Wanchoo. She is a 1974 batch Maharashtra IAS officer. She served as Additional Chief Secretary (GAD) of Maharashtra till January 31, 2010. She joined the Central Administrative Tribunal on March 2, 2010.

On assuming office Smt Leena Mehendale said that her main aim right now is to reduce the pendency of cases at the State Information Commission. She said she would use her experience to reduce the pendency of cases in the Commission. She also said that in democracy, people have a right to information and that it is important to train people in the correct use of RTI. "It is an important tool to empower people. Now, it is in a developing stage and it has to reach its peak. It will be my endeavor to take it there and to make it strong,"
